I think art should involve the viewer both physically and emotionally. Moreover, I want my pictures to be distinct...I have to be struck by a subject in some way; I paint directly from life in order to fully sense what's before me; I determine what to make visible; and my aim is to build forms that are concrete, weighty, and beautiful. ~Geraldine Kovats
BIOGRAPHY: Geraldine Kovats was born in San Francisco, California in 1968, where she calls home despite relocating numerous times during her life. She received a BFA from San Francisco’s Academy of Art where she enrolled for the school's emphasis on life drawing. During her final year of study Geraldine accepted an internship with Walt Disney Feature Animation Studios and went on to make a living in animation, and later in the field of academia--all the while solidly maintaining a body of autobiographical work. Currently, Geraldine is painting full time; her subjects are the people in her life and her surroundings. Her work, both fine art and animation art have been exhibited in a number of venues and publications; of note are the Orlando Museum of Art, Sotheby's Magazine, USA Today, and Newsweek.
