STATEMENT

Every subject is a portrait.

While subjects vary, they are not treated as separate genres, but rather as different ways of attending to the world. The work develops through sustained looking and repeated encounters over time. I build each painting through layering and revision until the composition resolves.

I am interested in how feeling is carried through light and form, independent of narrative. I paint to discover what is there, staying with the work until the painting functions independently of its source.
